On February 13, 2003, the European Union adopted Directive 2002/95/EC. The Directive (RoHS), restricts and prohibits the use of various heavy metals (cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead and mercury), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market after July 1, 2006.
